Group therapy

Session dynamics

Several patients have told me during the individual therapies that they would like to be part of a group therapy or personal development groups as I prefer to call them. Unfortunately, due to time constraints for the preparation of my doctoral thesis I could not lead any group, once my thesis is finished I start this new project, once the COVID pandemic allows group contact. That is why this new section is born, hoping that it will be enriching and a success for all the members who are part of it.

There are two types of groups:

Personal development groups: they do not work on a specific problem but on the general development of each individual, their duration is indefinite.

Groups to work on a specific problem: these groups have a shorter duration depending on the problem to be treated.

There are many advantages of working through group therapy: you receive support from the group members and from the therapist, as well as being able to interact with other people. It also helps those who feel isolated and find it difficult to establish interpersonal relationships.

It is possible, on the one hand, to address individual situations that create conflict and work on them within the group. These situations have an echo in the rest of the people mobilizing different emotions and scenes of their lives.

Basic program structure

On the other hand, we also work on the dynamics and movements that occur and that have to do with the relationships established among the participants.

Group psychotherapy usually takes place once a week for a minimum of 2 hours, depending on the dynamics to be performed, with a maximum of 15 participants. It can be guided by one or two psychotherapists. Currently only on Saturdays, we hope to open new dates.

Both individual psychotherapy and group therapy aim to make the person responsible for his or her life, encouraging creative processes when responding to the different changing situations of life. In short, to achieve self-support, that is, to be able to rely on their own abilities and resources from a self-awareness.
