Several patients have told me throughout the individual therapies that they would like to be part of a group therapy or personal development groups as I prefer to call them. Unfortunately due to time constraints due to the preparation of my doctoral thesis I could not lead any group, once my thesis was finished I started this new project. That’s why this new section is born hoping that it will be enriching and a success for all the members who are part of it.
There are two types of groups:
a) Personal development groups: we do not work on a specific dysfunction but on the general development of each individual, its duration is indefinite.
b) Groups to work on a specific problem: these groups have a shorter duration in time depending on the problem to be dealt with.
There are many advantages to working through group therapy: you get support from the group members and the therapist himself, as well as being able to interact with other people. It also helps people who feel isolated and find it difficult to establish interpersonal relationships.
In addition, the cost is cheaper than individual therapy.
On the one hand, it is possible to deal with individual situations that create conflict and work on them within the group. These situations have an echo in the rest of the people mobilizing different emotions and scenes of their lives.
On the other hand, we also work on the dynamics and movements that occur and that have to do with the relationships that are established between the participants.
Group psychotherapy usually takes place once a week for a minimum of 2 hours, depending on the dynamics to be performed, with a maximum of 15 participants. It can be guided by one or two psychotherapists.
Both individual psychotherapy and group therapy aim to make the person responsible for their life, encouraging creative processes when responding to different life changing situations. In short, that they get self-support, that is to say, that they are able to rely on their own capacities and resources from a self-consciousness.
